From Micky Mouse Club to Genie in a Bottle
by Shawna BreyChild stardom wasn't a piece of cake for Christina Aguilera; it was a piece of pie--literally. While filming Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club six years ago, Christina says that once, "I had to have a pie [thrown] at my face." She frowns, adding, "That wasn't too fun." Nevertheless, the Mouse house has been quite the breeding ground for today's yound singing sensations, and 18-year-old Christina is ready to take her place beside fellow ex-Mouseketeers Britney Spears and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez. The song that should launch her magic carpet: "Genie In A Bottle," the sassy first single from her self-titled debut. But this Ms. won't be needing a master. "A genie has always been portrayed as a man's slave." says Christina, a petite Wexford, Pennsylvanian with an unexpectedly huge singing voice. "Now it's, 'I'm not coming out of my bottle unless you please me the way I want to be pleased.' It's a total girl-powerful song." We're all ears.
